Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for taking the time to read my booking FAQ!

If you’ve already received an email response from me, all of these details will be found in the email. If you have not sent me a booking request and have questions, I recommend giving this a read before reaching out to make sure you agree with my booking process and work style.

New Clients Please be Aware:

  • Failing to follow proper booking procedure can hurt your chances of getting an appointment or result in you being dismissed from your appointment.

  • I do not do neck projects unless I’ve tattooed you in the past or you already have your chest done.

  • I will not do face or neck tattoos unless you are already heavily tattooed or in the industry.

  • I do not do first tattoos on: faces, necks (front or back), hands, ears, or chests. I will not do sleeves for a first tattoo unless you are older than the minimum age to get tattooed.

  • You must be 21 to get tattooed in Portland, and while this is generally not enforced as state law is 18, I do follow this law.

  • Please keep in mind these policies are to honor my values as a professional, they are not to pass judgement, but to give me peace of mind and longevity in my practice. If you disagree with them thats fine, but I’m not the artist for you.

What are your hourly rates?

My rates are $160/hour-ish. I am aware times are tough and if you have a hard budget please mention it and we can work together to create a design that works, or break a piece into smaller sessions. The final price includes the cost of the deposit. Chest pieces are almost always full days due to stenciling time and breaks needed. Full day sessions (6+ hours of tattooing) cap at $1000. Not all full day appointments will be 6 hours of tattooing. I charge by the hour of tattooing time, not breaks or stenciling so please take your time.

What is your deposit policy?

Deposits are firmly non-refundable, and are priced by the amount of time booked. Due to frequent last minute reschedules/no-shows, deposits have been raised from their prior amounts. They start at $150 and go upwards of $400 for large scale projects/full days.

You have 48 hours to reschedule your appointment, after which a new deposit must be placed. If you do this twice in a row you will not be able to book with me going forward, though if we are completing a piece I will finish it.

For customs, if you drastically change the concept, i.e. you want a dragon, I accept to do that and collect a deposit, but prior to your appointment you want to change the concept to a horse, you will have to place a new deposit if I accept the new concept. If I am not interested in the new concept your appointment will be cancelled with no deposit refunded.

Do you take customs?

Yes! However, customs are very labor intensive for me, as such, I only select a few each booking cycle. Please be as detailed as you can upfront with what you want. I prefer that customs start with a consultation in person so we can get a good idea of the direction you want to move in. Consultations are free, and if I decide I want to take on your project I’ll collect a deposit at the end. If not, I can at least hopefully point you in the right direction!

Consultations can be done over zoom or in person. I prefer in person for large pieces like sleeves/back pieces/chest pieces but if you are traveling in for tattoos I realize this is not always possible! Generally I do not send drafts after this session. Once a rough is agreed upon I create the final.

Most importantly, please be mindful that customs are a collaborative experience! I am not a printer, or a mind reader and as such, things will ultimately come out as my interpretation of your request.

How much should I tip?

Tipping is left to the clients discretion. It is always deeply appreciated, however, I price my tattoos to accommodate all of my living expenses, rather than relying on tips. If you cannot afford to tip a full 20% on top of your tattoo, that is not a problem. I especially do not expect 20% tips on projects like sleeves or chest pieces, since the price is already very high.

There are other ways to show your appreciation than money! I love to receive decor, flowers, plants, snacks! Even an energy drink for a long session, any kindness is always appreciated. 💜 I’ve got no dietary restrictions and I love watermelon highballs/yerba mates.

Alcohol, Caffeine, and other substances:

Please do not drink before your appointment, including the night before, as it thins the blood and will cause poor healing results. Do not drink until your scabs have formed, generally for a full 3 days after you’ve gotten your tattoo. Any additional inflammation will slow down the healing process, so keep that in mind! The most critical time frame is the 24h before and after though.

My policy is similar for weed, definitely don’t smoke the day of, I find it increases inflammation and makes people twitchy. CBD is generally fine however.

If you are a smoker, you’re welcome to take smoke breaks, but if you have to smoke every 10 mins bring a patch lol.

Caffeine in large amounts generally doesn’t feel good during a session, so I wouldn’t drink a ton. If it’s your morning ritual to have a coffee, that’s fine. If you’re worried about it, green or black tea is a good substitute to avoid a caffeine headache.

Please don’t take any blood thinners of any kind unless they are prescribed, and let me know if they are. You don’t have to disclose what type of medication you take, just let me know if it thins your blood/makes you prone to infection. Please do not take any unprescribed medication before your appointment (yes that means your leftover wisdom teeth meds).

Client Etiquette:

Please properly prepare for your appointment by being well fed, rested, and clean. Showering before is always ideal. Don’t forget deodorant! Wear comfortable clothing that makes the area(s) we will be tattooing easily accessible.

Please do not show up early to your appointment! I often need the time before we start to eat/clean and don’t let people in until I’m ready. The dragonfly coffee house is right around the corner though if you need some place to kill a few minutes!

If I feel you are hungover/drunk/impaired to the point of being disorderly I will dismiss you from the appointment. Flirting with me or any inappropriate behavior will result in you being dismissed and immediately blacklisted, I will not finish your project I’ll just make you leave.

I prefer to keep conversations casual and avoid heavy topics. As someone with ADHD I tend to go quiet when focusing intensely, I promise I don’t hate you!

General Policies for Necks and Chest Pieces:

I am no longer accepting neck pieces if I have not tattooed you prior or you don’t already have your chest done.

For sensitive areas such as necks or chests, please do your best to hold still and remain calm. Breath evenly and keep your muscles relaxed. Your ability to hold still can dramatically impact the final result. Jerking, pulling away, leg thrashing and gasping can be very problematic, especially during line work. I realize this can be unintentional at times, but it needs to be controlled. If I feel you aren’t able to hold still for the work I would rather stop the appointment.

You will not be able to go on your phone while I am working on you in these areas, so please queue up a playlist/podcast and settle in, as it is very frustrating having to work around clients going on their phones while I work. Chests and necks are high stress and very physically demanding for me, so please do your best to prepare! Numbing creams can be used in-between lifework and shading if you are very worried about pain.

Generally over the ear headphones can be too bulky for necks, sometimes chests depending on placement, so bring ear pods. I have ear caps (like shower caps for your ears) that can keep them from falling out and muffle noise. Please do not try and look down during these appointments, you won’t be able to see the work, it smudges the stencils, warps your skin while I work.
